Alva B. Sims
Was born on September 11, 1928 to Aubrey and Violet (Gibson) Sims in a farmhouse southwest of Apache. He passed away December 27th at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Lawton, OK at the age of 81.
Mr. Sims grew up in the Apache area and attended Apache High School. During the Korean Conflict, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 17, 1950. He completed his army training as a Sergeant for Battery A 9th AAA Gun Battalion in Ft. Scott, California. He was honorably discharged on February 16, 1953. For a While, he worked as a helicopter mechanic at Ft. Sill, OK.
He married Anna Marie Hrbacek, also from Apache, on September 30, 1950 in Lawton, OK. They raised three children on a farm west of Apache.
He was a farmer in the Apache and Elgin areas and managed a successful custom harvesting operation. It operated from Texas to Montana, harvesting wheat and milo.
He owned and raced several championship racehorses and managed Apache Downs Racetrack from the late 1980’s until the early 1990’s.
Mr. Sims served as a member of the Apache Jaycees, the Apache Roundup Club and was a former member of the Board of Education of Boone School. He later was married to Faye Hulene Wilson.

Graveside services for Mr. Sims will be held Thursday, December 31st at 10:00 A.M. at the Cache Creek Mission Cemetery west of Apache with Reverend Bud Jones officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Crews Funeral Home
